OXYGEN - Honorable Mention at the 2025 International Photography Awards

My underwater photograph OXYGEN received an Honourable Mention in the Nature / Underwater category at the 2025 International Photography Awards (IPA) and was included in the competition’s Official Selection.
About the International Photography Awards
The IPA are among the largest and most prestigious photography competitions worldwide. Since 2003, thousands of photographers from all over the world have entered every year in professional, non-professional and student categories. The competition comprises over 80 sub-categories, ranging from architecture and editorial to nature and fine art.
The jury consists of international industry experts, and the winners are honoured at the Lucie Awards Gala, one of the most important events on the international photography scene. In total, prize money of over 47,500 US dollars is awarded. Previous IPA winners have been featured in PetaPixel, My Modern Met and the British Journal of Photography, amongst others.
An Honourable Mention means that the image has stood out among thousands of entries to reach the top tier of the competition, a recognition that carries significant weight within the international photography community.
The story behind OXYGEN
OXYGEN came into being underwater, in one of those moments when everything comes together: light, movement and a brief instant of complete stillness.
The image captures the moment when air bubbles rise through the water and refract the incoming light — a fleeting choreography of light and air that lasts only a fraction of a second. It is an image that cannot be planned. One can only prepare, dive in and be ready.
Underwater photography demands a different kind of attention. There is no fixed vantage point, no tripod, no second chance. Everything is in motion, the water, the light, your own body. What remains is the instinct for the right moment.
